A useful next step for your teenage player

A teenager starting soccer and a teenager playing club soccer may need very different sessions. Tell me where your player is now and what they want to feel more comfortable doing.

Ask about training

Is it too late for a teenage beginner?

A teenage beginner can ask about a starting session without pretending to be further along. We can begin with receiving, passing, carrying the ball and understanding the next decision. I'll use the player's experience and confidence to decide how much information and pressure to add.

A private lesson can give the player room to ask questions. A small group may be useful if there are compatible players, but age alone doesn't establish the match. There is no separate guaranteed beginner group advertised here. Boys and girls can both inquire.

For preteens and competitive club players

For a U11, U12 or U13 player, the starting point is the player rather than the age label. Can they receive comfortably? Do they look before the ball arrives? Do they understand when to turn or play back? The same questions become more demanding as the speed and pressure of play change.

For a U14-U19 club player, a session might focus on receiving across the body, a weak-foot passing option, striker movement or a defender's distance from an attacker. Those examples guide a conversation, not a fixed age-band curriculum. Training can support a recreational-to-club transition or a return to supplemental practice; it doesn't guarantee selection or playing time.

Prepare for school soccer without a promise of selection

Tryout preparation starts with the demands the player expects and the parts of their game they can work on. We can practice technical execution, looking before receiving, making a clear passing choice and responding to a mistake. The school or club makes its own selection decisions.

If your player hopes to play at a higher level, bring that goal to the conversation. Fran's coaching is player development. This isn't a recruiting, scholarship or academy-admission service. A short period before a tryout also isn't a reason to promise rapid results.

Can private training fit around club practice?

Share normal practice days, matches, school commitments and how the player feels about their current load. We can discuss a session with a manageable purpose and a practical appointment, rather than assuming every available evening needs extra training.

After-school, weekend and summer inquiries are welcome, subject to actual availability, heat and approved field access. No fixed slot or indoor backup is promised. Parents receive a short update about the session focus; we review progress through what the player understands and does, without a guaranteed timetable. Compare the available formats.
